An insightful event was held to familiarize the National level media personnel with the SOE Policy, the Divestiture Guidelines and the indicative timelines for the proposed divestment of seven SOEs. The purpose was to disseminate a message through the media agencies to the general public of Sri Lanka, the transparency and the accountability of the entire restructuring process carried out by the SOERU.
The event was graced by Hon. (Prof.) Ranjith Bandara, Chairman of the Committee on Public Enterprises, Hon. Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Chairman of the Committee on Public Accounts and leading journalists.
Opening remarks were made by Mr. Mahinda Siriwardena, Secretary to the Treasury and Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe, the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
The keynote speech was delivered by Mr. Suresh Shah, Director General of the SOERU.
Presentation on Management Buy – Outs
A presentation was organized by the SOERU, to educate the senior management of select SOEs on Management Buy-Outs (MBO). The focus was to introduce the concept of employee centered share ownership as means of restructuring.
Chanaka Wickramasuriya, a prominent figure in private equity in Sri Lanka delivered the presentation. Murtaza Jafferjee, a Member of the Advisory Committee of the SOERU also made some valuable contributions to the presentation. The SOERU was represented by Abhishek Kalupathirana, Transaction Team Lead.
The attendees showed great interest and were eager to expeditiously explore this option.
